During the Capstone Project the biggest challenge, I encountered was narrowing down a specific topic to focus on. Ultimately, I selected accountability because rules and laws mean nothing unless there is accountability for violating them. During my research, I discovered numerous cases and examples, both internationally and at home in the United States. Human rights violations have taken place all the world in the last 100 years. It was very interesting watching the Ukraine – Russia conflict unfold during the course. Depending on the investigative journalist and news network, you can see civilian residences targeted by Russian soldiers. It was interesting putting the content I learned in this course into real life perspective as the war events unfolded.
Some strategies I used to overcome challenges of topic selection by conducting research to determine if I had enough sources to extract content from. I used the assignment course outline to formulate the structure of the paper and supported the content with the relevant sources.

One of the biggest challenges for me in completing my capstone project was finding the time I needed to research and write 10-page paper. I have a bad habit of putting things off till the last minute. I normally wait until the day before or the day of the deadline to begin my assignments. I had to disrupt my typical cycle in order to finish this assignment on time and submit a paper that I was proud of. The weekly assignments we had to do were the most beneficial in this regard. I was able to complete these assignments step by step rather than throwing something together at the last minute. I set aside time during my lunch breaks at work and after work the week it was due to draft the paper and add additional information. It all boiled down to effective time management.
The second challenge occurred prior the first one I mentioned. I struggled to come up with a topic to write about. I knew what I wanted to research, but it was difficult to obtain a lot of material on such a specific subject. To overcome this obstacle, I broadened the topic to include all aspects of mental health. I was able to uncover what seemed like an endless amount of information needed to compose an informative research paper once I expanded my topic.
