Professor and class,
When establishing goals with a client it is important to apply the SMART goal method. SMART goals are specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and timely. Applying this concept will make the client’s goals more measurable and realistic, increasing the likelihood of success. Being specific in goal setting and applying a timeline for the goal will make the goal more achievable and will hold the client accountable. Three examples of immeasurable goals are:

  1. To lose weight
  2. To spend less time on social media
  3. To save money

Each of these goals are achievable, but not easily in this form. When helping a client I would discuss adding a realistic time frame and more specific details to break down the goal further. Adding these details will not only hold them accountable to their goals, but will also provide them with encouragement as they see their progress throughout the process.
