Assignment
An important part of any first course is reflecting on what the start of your educational journey means while defining your goals and how you plan to achieve them. Considering the reasons you enrolled in this university, your place in it and the world, and how you’ll function as a human who will learn in a virtual university, are important to your success.
Writing is a process, not a one-time event. This week is an opportunity to further reflect on the last six weeks by adding onto, revising and proofreading the rough draft you began in Week 4. Strong writers know that the proofreading and editing involved in revising their work is crucial to producing their best final draft. You’ll be practicing these skills as you finalize your own draft of the Reflection Assignment.
To prepare for the Assignment:
- View the Scholars of Change videos in this week’s resources.
- Read the article, “New Walden University Study Reveals Six Distinct Types of Social Change agents Around the World” to see what kind of social change agent you are.
- Review the Rough Draft Reflection you submitted in your Week 4 Journal.
- Review the comments and feedback your instructor made for your Week 4 Rough draft.
- Review the Week 5 significant object assignment and any feedback your instructor provided.

Writing Tips
- The goal of the first sentence is to get the reader to read the second sentence. Make your story interesting so the reader wants to find out more.
- Delete unnecessary words. They are like weeds cluttering up your good ideas. Instructors can tell when there are unnecessary words added just to fill out the word count requirements.
- Use Grammarly, free to Walden students via the Walden Writing Center, to find and fix grammatical errors. You found this in Week 3.
- Read your work out loud – to the mirror, to a patient family member or friend, to the dog. Your ears will hear grammatical hiccups and missing transitions that your eyes no longer see.
- Run spell check. Then check that it didn’t change words you intended for words it thought you meant.
- Save your work often and in more than one place, for example to your local system and to an online location.
- Allow yourself plenty of time to revise. It takes longer than you think.
