Final Paper Part 3: Methods
[WLOs: Depends on topic] [CLOs: 1, 2]
Prior to beginning work on this assignment, read Chapters 5 and 6 in your course textbook.
In order to help you prepare to create a methods section for your final paper, you will evaluate the methods section of two existing studies pertaining to your health disparity topic of interest
Before you submit your written assignment, you are encouraged to review the UAGC’s Grammarly Guide (Links to an external site.) tutorial, set up a Grammarly (Links to an external site.) account (if you have not already done so), and use Grammarly to review a rough draft of your assignment. Then carefully review all issues identified by Grammarly, and revise your work as needed.
Note that each week your assignment will consist of a vital component of your final paper. As such, you are encouraged to use the feedback (Links to an external site.) you receive each week to make the necessary revisions for your final paper.
This section of your final paper must

  • Describe the data extracted from at least two articles you highlighted in Week 2.
    • Given that this is a systematic literature review, your Methods should explain your inclusion and exclusion criteria for a variety of databases and the sources they contain. Essentially, given your topic, how are you going to narrow the 1000+ search results to less than 15 articles to review? Once found, explain
      • the study design,
      • the participant characteristics,
      • the features of the intervention utilized (format, theoretical framework, cultural competency, dosage), and
      • the outcomes of interest.

The goal with this section is to explain to the reader how you started your overall search process and then highlight the key approaches that each of your articles utilized to achieve results. “Who” was involved (researchers and participants), “What” did each person involved do (researchers and participants), “When” did this study take place (does that hold relevance, meaning, is this study still of value), “Where” did this study take place (does that hold relevance, meaning, is this study still of value), “Why” was this approach chosen, and “How” was data collected.
TIP: Use the article titles as your headings to keep your work organized and the roman numerals above (the study design, etc.) as subheadings so that each section is easily identifiable by your instructor. Also, if you have questions (after reading the directions, rubric, and announcement), you should ask your instructor.
