Researchers may wish to conduct qualitative research to investigate a specific phenomenon when few or no qualitative studies are published on the matter. Imagine you are a member of a research team debating whether to conduct a qualitative or quantitative study on the health care needs of the community you serve with residual grant funding. As the qualitative specialist, how would you convince the quantitative research specialists in your team that qualitative research is justified? Simply noting there is a dearth of qualitative research on the problem or that other researchers have recommended qualitative research on the problem is not a strong enough argument. How would you justify the need to do qualitative research based on its merits for understanding the phenomenon? Explain.

To justify using a qualitative research design over using a quantitative research design, I would explain that qualitative designs deal more with the views of the subjects involved in the study. In a study about healthcare, the needs of the community will be considered more through qualitative analysis because researchers can explore the opinions of the population and get a better understanding of the reality in which they are living. In dealing with the healthcare needs of people, a qualitative method would be a more personable approach to collect data and create a narrative from the experiences of the research subjects and not simply create numerical data as a way to discuss their issues. Researchers seek to explore, describe, explain, and understand the human experience by talking to or observing people (D’Urso et. al., 2021). Since the research is only focusing on one community of people, the smaller sample size is more fitting for a qualitative research design, as well.

One of the largest benefits of using qualitative research is that the scope and breadth of the study can be very large. Qualitative research allows the participants to expand upon their answers (D’Urso et al., 2021). In this given situation, qualitative research would allow the researchers to expand upon experience and information. Since this situation can be rather exploratory, open-ended questions within interviews and surveys could really help the researchers understand more. Quantitative research would give good data points, but this situation is too exploratory. If the right questions and data points are not explored, then the data could be skewed. Qualitative questions and forms of study allow the scope to be rather expansive. One of the main goals of the research is to understand the situations and the people. Understanding their background and situations could be better discovered when allowing the participants to expand however they see fit. They can expand and direct a lot of information that is unknown, allowing the researcher to correctly understand the situations.

Qualitative research is used to gather in-depth insights into a phenomenon and to understand the thoughts and lived experiences, through direct feedback from a sample to generalize for the population (Greenberger, 2021). Qualitative research derives from interpretivism and is often used in the public health sector as it is inherently positivist answering questions of predominance and relationships concerning determinates and outcomes (Stickley et al., 2022). Qualitative research would be a better approach to determining and understanding the different needs of the community through investigative research, which could later be used as the framework for a quantitative study. Once those needs and expectations of the community are exposed through the qualitative open-ended questioning of the data collection in qualitative research, then the relative importance of those individual requirements can be quantitatively analyzed. The researcher would be able to obtain details of what is important for the community and make clear observations of the situation from the different viewpoints of the community and what they have experienced so far.
As it seems there is little known through past research the capability of qualitative research to be flexible during its execution would allow the understanding to be reactive based on the feedback and allow for more context, complexity, and subjectivity in the study. Allowing the researcher to comprehend the origins and causes of the communities’ requirements through qualitative research, will provide rich detail that can be validated through the quality and trustworthiness of the study making it credible and authentic enough to secure the required funding.

A qualitative study is exploratory so despite the limited qualitative research on health care needs of the community, it would be important to establish internal coherence (Howard-Grenville et al., 2021). Internal coherence refers to making sure all the research questions are aligned to the intended outcomes. The researcher would ensure everyone understands why a type of data being collected and how it can be used to build a theory. The structure must be well thought out and so framework of the study absolutely fits. Also, helping the researchers to understand why certain types of data is important to the study. The researcher must avoid instances where the research questions do not align with goal of the research (Howard-Grenville, 2021). This is especially important in research that does not have much qualitative research to support the intended study. Howard-Grenville et al. (2021) states getting the right balance is pertinent. Understanding the process of the research to be ongoing from beginning to end is also important since there will be a lot of revisions.

As a qualitative specialist, I would convince the qualitative research specialist by demonstrating the findings to add critical information and rich descriptive illustrations. This in turn gives depth to results and increased decision-making value. This phase can also provide a forum for team members to help brainstorm or develop an idea into one that could eventually be a compelling one to their peers, in which could be tested in final form of a quantitative study. I would collect ideas that can be used to create valuable content that will reflect the research. This will allow everyone to benefit from a refined and beneficial value proposition. Qualitative research provides a realistic feel of the world. It provides flexible ways of collecting, analyzing, and interpreting data and information. It is an approach that emphasizes the holistic and realistic manifestations of the events in the natural environment they are attached to and use different data collection tools (Ezer & Aksut, 2021). The purpose is to gain as much data possible from a sample size. It is more flexible than a quantitative research approach because it enables participants to express themselves while providing data. I will justify the need to do qualitative research by beginning with a brief statement of interest that will be the focus of my research. My interest statement would consist of new knowledge, what changed over the years and what methods i will use to conduct research.

Researchers must make a case about the merits of their research and try neither to overstate nor underestimate study results. This includes addressing research strengths and limitations. All research has potential limitations either inherent in the methods used or created through errors in the conduct of the research. Researchers should describe actual or potential study limitations and how these could be minimized or avoided. With that in mind, imagine you are a peer reviewer for a scholarly journal and are asked to review a qualitative research study submitted for publication and to provide the editor feedback regarding whether it should be accepted, revised, or rejected. What concerns with the research might surface during your review that may lead you to recommend that the manuscript be revised or rejected? What aspects of the research may persuade you that the manuscript should be accepted with minor or no revisions? Justify your arguments for and against publication of the study by highlighting the significance of identified strengths and limitations.

Rejections and revisions is common in academic articles. After spending much time on research, writing and formatting a research paper, it is demotivating when it goes unpublished. There are numerous limitations that can make a paper to be rejected or revised (Hesterman et. al, 2018). The first reason is that the research did not fall within the journal`s aim and scope. Every research study has well-crated aim and scope.
If the researcher overlooked this session by not giving detailed thoughts, the paper will be automatically rejected. Another reason is that the research failed the technical evaluation. This implies that the paper had attributes that are suspected to be plagiarized, the study paper is under evaluation by another journal, the quality of the language is low, tables and figures are not transparent enough to read and the general research did not conform with the author`s rules (Mazumdar 2021).

In making revisions and identifying my strengths and limitations one must understand their peer’s quality and experience of their work. You must also know that the journals that you are using is not mismatch and the information does not contradict your information in supporting your argument. All the standards should be supported by the researchers reflexivity to their research when thinking with consistency throughout their research and practice(D’Urso et al., 2021). This is saying that this qualitative research should be trustworthy. Another aspect to know is what the scholars are looking because of lack of originality, the significance of the research and the novelty will be of great concern in your dissertation. The review should aim using exhaustive searchers and pre-determine journals in supporting your argument when concerns can be minimized or avoided (Bradberry 2019).
Research must target a or many journals that deals with or about the conversation when addressing specific research questions, you are studying. One must understand when explaining how things are the way they are and the express the researched questions that your data can answer. The credibility must be believable when developing your documentation to be trusted (D’Urso et al., 2021). These actions should be evaluated with peers or persons repeatedly over time through established claims, evidence and reasons that will support your argument when it comes to you dissertation literature review. Many reasons are due to flaws in the methodology to the lack of interpretations in your dissertation. One may have an improper rationale to the explanation because of the lack of originality and the presentation of an obsolete study. The incomplete statistics and data can be inappropriate can be in their study also.
