Directions: Find ten resources (two quality media, two community, and six online) that you could provide to parents to promote their child’s literacy development in the home. At least one of the community resources must be something other than a library. An example of a community resource is provided in the table below. In the table, include the title of the resource or organization, a detailed description written in your own words, and how parents can use the resource to promote their child’s literacy development. (Replace the example with your first resource.)
Title of Resource or Organization | Description | How parents can use this resource to promote child’s literacy development |
Example: Ruth’s Room Book Store (Delete example before you submit) |
Ruth’s Room is located in Dallas, Texas. This small bookstore sells used adult and children’s books at very low prices ranging from $.05-$5.00. All funds support the local Habitat for Humanity. (Summarize these descriptions. Don’t take exact wording from the resource.) |
This local community organization provides books for parents to purchase at very low cost. Books that are donated are in good to excellent condition. The books can be used to increase children’s reading development as parents read to them or they read independently. (Summarize these descriptions. Don’t take exact wording from the resource.) |
