Thesis: Attention needs to be brought to the global crisis of resource depletion
through consumerism, and the exhibit Meaningful Engagement will bring light to
these issues by displaying thought provoking pieces that revolve around the damage
that consumer culture brings to our environment. The five contemporary artists
included will be Diego Bianchi, Mel Chin, Katharina Grosse, Lonnie Holley, and
Otobong Nkanga – all of which share a common thread of how art can provoke social
awareness pertaining to issues concerning consumerism.
