Overview
You will review the early literacy foundation blocks from Virginia’s Foundation Blocks for Early Literacy document. The link to this document can be found on the Early Literacy Foundation Blocks Assignment page.
Instructions
You will complete the chart for each of the six foundation blocks for literacy:
- Oral language
- Vocabulary
- Phonological awareness
- Letter recognition
- Print awareness
- Writing
The focus of this assignment is on early readers/writers, pre-kindergarten. Fill out the Early Literacy Foundation Blocks Template. Be sure to:
- Give a clear description of each literacy block (50-75 words)
- Identify one sample activity and include the sample with instructions. (50-75 words)
- Write a contextual analysis (75-100 words) clearly stating how meaningful learning is necessary for each block. Identify your focus on either children as English Language Learners or children with special needs. Special education major’s differentiation focus will be on children with special needs. Elementary education major’s differentiation focus can be either ELL or children with special needs.
