Prior to completing this assignment, please review the “Policy Argumentation” doc (I recommend you open it in another window). This assignment is intended to serve as both a proposal of sorts for your Policy Paper as well as a rough outline to help you out. It will also allow me to provide feedback and hopefully steer you in the right direction before you sit down to complete the paper.
Your submission does not need to be treated as a formal essay in terms of structure. Please, however, include the following sections:
Status Quo and Harms
What is the current status quo of your issue (e.g. “Not doing anything about rising tuition rates will continue to lock out the most needy students from a college education”). What are the harms created by perpetuating the status quo (“an untrained workforce, rising poverty, etc.”)
Plan to resolve the problem
For this section you only need to have a mandate (“what exactly will happen”). However, if you already have information on the other components (agency, cost, oversight), then definitely add them in here.
