DQ 1 TOPIC 1 449
Clineesha Murray
Hello Dr. Smith and Class ,
“Rapport is engaging with the client to build a relationship.”(Hepworth et. al, 2017) When it comes to avoiding barriers in communication , I would start by simply making the client feel as comfortable as possible. Also while working with the client they must be able to trust me so I would want to ensure we begin with a great start. I would always listen and give the client my undivided attention. Ask as many open -ended questions so that I can obtain as much information without making the client feel pressured or uncomfortable. I never want the client to feel like there are being interrogated while listening and repeating there issues is another way to avoid a barrier. One’s culture is important in every person life being familiar and able to understand the culture in which they cam from and there current living conditions will be a part of the therapeutic process. When a social worker better understands the culture of there clients they can better meet the needs. When it comes to physical attending behaviors the position in which the social worker sits along with the facial expressions and all the attention is necessary to make a positive impact on the client. This will be one thing that will help ensure the clients progress. The social worker can not sit slumped over and act like they are not concerned good posture is very important. Also making eye contact if its not offensive to the client to let them know you are paying attention. There should be no facial expressions made unless its a smile you always want to be a positive as you can . Having a social worker is is yarning, looking crazy with there eyes is not welcoming and could stop the client from making progress. If the social worker is smiling and showing emotion also asking questions the client will feel more comfortable because the social worker is interested.
Best Regards,
Clineesha
